A Solid Foundation

Luke 6: 46-49

⁴⁶ And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? ⁴⁷ Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: ⁴⁸ He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. ⁴⁹ But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.^[i]

• Jesus compares two different types of people.
• The person who is living for Jesus and following his teachings
• This person has built his life on a firm foundation, the foundation is Jesus
• The second type of person is some one who builds his life without a firm foundation. In fact they have no foundation at all, the life may look good but it will not stand the storms of life.
• The storms of life touch all of us, with Christ we can weather the storm but without him the storms will destroy us.
• We must build our life on Jesus and obey his word. Living our lives daily in the will of God
• Verse 46 - ⁴⁶ And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
• When we only give Christ lip service our house will not withstand the storms.
• Romans 10:9-10 ⁹ That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. ¹⁰ For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation^[1]

Colossians 2 :6-7  ⁶ As ye have therefore ^treceived Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: ⁷ Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding there
